Meet this week’s Campus Celeb, Taylor Kim! The 21-year old Kent State golfer was recently ranked number 17 in the nation and has been named MAC Women’s Golfer of the Week twice just this season alone. Her Campus caught up with Taylor in between her busy schedule and got to know the future golf star.

Her Campus: How long have you been playing golf and who or what got you started?
Taylor Kim: I played competitive golf for 8 years. My dad was a professional golfer so he got me started.
HC: What has been your top three moments in your golfing career?
TK: When I was selected to be a member of the Canadian National Team, winning a gold medal at Canada Games in 2013, and winning the 2014 British Columbia Women’s Amateur Championship.
HC: I can only imagine how dedicated you have to be as a college athlete. What motivates you when those 7 a.m. workouts and daily practices start getting tiring?
TK: I think of our team winning another tournament as a result of working hard. My teammates and coaches are always cheering me up and we always try to have fun during workouts and practices.
HC: In the rare events when you have free time between classes/traveling/practicing/competing, what do you do?
TK: I like to just relax and listen to music or watch a movie. I also love taking naps!
HC: Who’s been your biggest inspiration/influence (celebrity or otherwise)?
Growing up, I have always watched Anika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa (famous women golfers, but now retired) play and wanted to be just like them.
HC: What is your favorite part about playing for Kent State?
TK: The Kent State golf team has a family-like atmosphere. Although golf is an individual sport, we care and look out for each other. I love our coaching staff as they take care of you on and off the course.
HC: What are your hobbies/interests outside of golf?
TK: I love to snowboard, swim and shop!
HC: What are your plans post-college?
TK: I am planning to play golf professionally after I graduate. I want to play on the LPGA (ladies professional golf association) tour where the top players around the world compete.
