Olivia (Liv) Mullen is this week’s Campus Celebrity! This ambitious collegiette has made quite a name for herself at our beloved Kent State. Olivia serves as the Senator for the College of the Arts and Sciences for the Undergraduate Student Government, and she is also a founding sister of the Rho Kappa chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity. Olivia is also a Student Success Leader, Sweetheart for Alpha Sigma Phi and a campus representative for University Tees. Liv took time out of her busy schedule to tell us more about her exciting life.

Name: Liv Mullen

Major: Organismal Biology

Minor: Geographic Information Systems

Year: Junior

Relationship status: Very taken by Niko Bernardone

Hometown: Manchester, OH

Her Campus: How did you first get involved with Undergraduate Student Government?Olivia Mullen: I was encouraged to run for office by Kevin Otubu, a friend of mine whom I met through Greek life.  He said he believed that I could benefit from it and bring great talents to the table. I knew it would allow me to communicate professionally with the faculty in my college and prepare me for my career aspirations.

HC: So can you tell us a little bit about your position in USG?OM: I have the position of the Senator for the College of the Arts and Sciences. I attend bi-weekly undergrad student government meetings with the entire board. I also hold a chair position on the College of Arts and Sciences and act as a liaison between the students of my college and the faculty. It is my responsibility to tackle issues and make important decisions as a voice of the student body, which is something I take very seriously.

HC: Do you have any initiatives for this coming year/your time at Kent State?OM: Dean Blank, the Dean for the College of the Arts and Sciences, and myself are working towards revamping the psychology roadmap to include clinical lab hours to better prepare students for opportunities after graduation. All senators are working with the director of student advancement, Keri Richmond, to implement an alumni mentorship program. This would offer 1-2 students per department a Kent State an alumni mentor in their field of study and I believe it can truly benefit these individuals.

HC: How do you balance your position in USG as well as all of your other commitments?OM: I don’t. Just kidding, I just don’t sleep lol. But my planner is basically my best friend. You can usually find me posted up in the library working on countless jobs, assignments and whatever various USG duties I have going on at that point.

HC: Who/what is your biggest motivator?OM: I’ve always strived to be as successful as Megan Carrasco. She’s a responsible sorority woman with great academic records and I consider her an excellent mentor.

HC: Where do you see your life after graduation?OM: I definitely need to be on a beach. It’s my dream to do marine mammal research and marine conservation so, as much as I love Kent, I plan to head South for grad school and my career.
