Taylor Swift’s New Song ME! Is An Anthem For Embracing Your Individuality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kennesaw chapter.

On April 26th, Taylor Swift dropped her newest single featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco. When the new single released, so did a pastel-filled music video with all sorts of easter eggs. After fans had a day to enjoy the new release and use their detective skills to find clues, the two singers took to Instagram to reveal more about the song.

In Swift’s Instagram live video from April 27th, Urie revealed “ME!” is a song about embracing your individuality. Swift and Urie both support the LGBTQ+ community, and this rainbow filled video about accepting yourself is a nod to fans in the community.

The pair discussed the lightheartedness of filming the video together and chatted about some of their favorite moments. Swift stated that she didn’t want the song to take itself seriously and instead wanted to have fun with it.

Swift is known for her dorkiness and embraces it in the “ME!” music video. She accepts a kitten from Urie after rejecting flowers and a ring. (The kitten’s name is Benjamin Button and he’s the newest addition to Swift’s family!) The lyrics “I’m the only one of me, baby, that’s the fun of me” and “you’re the only one of you, baby, that’s the fun of you” encourages listeners to embrace their individuality and have fun being themselves. As swifties wait anxiously for the rest of TS7 to drop, we’ll be streaming “ME!” nonstop and living our best lives.
