How to Throw A Super Bowl Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Although you might not be one of the 70,000-plus attendees for Super Bowl XLVII, chances are you’ll be viewing it at home (even if you’re just watching for Beyoncé’s half-time show or the commercials). So why not go all out and throw a Super Bowl party for everyone to enjoy?

First thing’s first: you can’t throw a good party without food. Some go-to choices are buffalo wings, pizza and dips. Or you could make it a potluck and ask your guests to bring a dish so you’re not left with all the work! But if you’re feeling a little adventurous, here are some ideas that will stand out:

  1. Football Field Chips and Dip: Create a football field with different dips and surround it with several kinds of chips. You’ll score big with all of these delicious options.
  2. Chocolate Covered Football Strawberries: Dip strawberries in chocolate and decorate with white icing so they look like little footballs. This is a creative and yummy way to serve food.

Besides food, a good party needs great decorations. Depending on which team you’re rooting for, buy a few balloons with the team’s logo and colors and scatter them around the house. Buy football tablecloths, paper plates and napkins at the dollar store to decorate the tables. If you want to add a little more, you can creatively cover old cans with paper that looks like a football to hold silverware:

On top of the food and decorations, think of some games everyone can play before the Super Bowl or during halftime. Besides the always-popular football pass outside, play Half-Time Trivia where you ask history, coaches, colors and stats questions about the teams playing in the Super Bowl (which are the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, in case you didn’t know). Check out each team’s website to create questions.

So even though you might not be the biggest football expert, you now know how to be an expert at throwing a great football party. All that’s left for you to do is invite everyone over for that big night — February 3 — and enjoy!
