Breakfast: Most Important Meal of the Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Getting up for class can be a struggle. Every morning I hit the snooze button until the very last minute; leaving me barely anytime to get ready and make it to class on time, much less eat breakfast. I’d much rather opt for the unhealthy convenience of a Pop-Tart, than put effort into making a healthy breakfast.

Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day. What you eat for breakfast fuels you up, and impacts your performance the rest of the day. We all have those days when we are sitting in class, and our learning is clouded by our persistent thought of food.

Breakfast provides the necessary nutrients to help keep you awake, energized and focused during class.

So, take the time to eat breakfast! Limit your intake of sugary packaged food items.  Instead of Pop-Tarts, swap for fruit. Eat a bowl of cereal or whole grain toast with jelly. There are many healthy options that provide enough energy for the entire day… and save you the embarrassment of having a loud, growling stomach in class.
