Bon Voyage: My Paris Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Paris: famously known as the city of lights and love. This city has a long and rich history that draws in about 30 million visitors per year. I have been fascinated by France and French culture for my entire life and there are several things I want to make sure I accomplish when I finally get the chance to fulfill my dream and visit this incredible city.

  1. Eiffel Tower

I think it’s pretty much impossible to go to Paris and not want to visit the Eiffel Tower. This incredible piece of architecture has been a landmark in the city since the late 1800s, and sports incredible views of the city from 986 feet in the air. At night, it gets lit up with glittering lights that are sure to dazzle anyone.

2. Notre Dame de Paris

This breathtaking cathedral was constructed in the 12th century and has close ties to the history of France itself. It is a pinnacle of Gothic architecture and medieval artwork, and has been a primary subject in several pieces of media including Victor Hugo’s famous novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. For someone like me who is obsessed with art, architecture, and religious history, this cathedral is an absolute must-see.

3. Disneyland Paris

I will admit without shame that I am a huge Disney nerd, so visiting Disneyland Paris is essential for me. Years ago I was able to visit Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida and loved it, so being able to experience that magic again in a foreign country would be my dream.

4. The Louvre

This world famous art museum takes a primary spot on many people’s Parisian bucket lists. Both their exhibitions and the building’s architecture are breathtaking which makes it even more exquisite to visit. One of their current exhibitions in the Yves Saint Laurent Collection which is stunning in pictures, so I imagine it’s even more incredible in person.

5. Palace of Versailles

This opulent palace was home to many French royals, including Queen Marie Antoinette. I’m fascinated by royals, especially queens, and would love to explore the history of her home. The design of it is like no other building in existence which includes features like its famous hall of mirrors. Without a doubt, I want to visit this incredible place and take in all of the history it has to offer.

There are so many places in Paris that I hope to visit someday, but these are a few of my top choices. I hope you’re inspired for your next trip to this luxurious city. Bon voyage!
