When you finally move to a new city to start college, it can be extremely difficult to maintain your hair, nails, and tan. In a new environment, you do not know what salons to trust and what certain salons offer.  Although some people try and hold off getting their haircut and nails done until they go home, there are plenty of places in Harrisonburg that are just as good as your go-to places at home!

After talking to many of our fellow JMU collegiettes™, I was able to see what salons are the best ones to go to on a college student’s budget. With these top picks, you are sure to be looking your best, without hurting your wallet!

Best Hair Salon: The Studio
Located at 380 East Market Street, The Studio is a salon that provides hair care, manicures and pedicures, makeup, skin treatments, and facials. Many women at JMU get their hair done here, because it always comes out looking great! With the extremely helpful staff, this salon (and cute store in the front) provides a stylish and relaxing atmosphere to go along with your salon service.

With most of the staff having over 15 years of experience, The Studio is one salon you can trust. It also has flexible hours, with its doors open six days a week, and perfect prices for a college student. A haircut costs between $20-50, and it is worth your money! Check out their website or just stop in and take a look around. You won’t be disappointed!

Best Manicure & Pedicure: Holly’s Nails
New to the Harrisonburg area, Holly’s Nails has become a quick favorite of JMU students. Located at 563 University Boulevard, many people love the inviting atmosphere and the friendly staff. They are also very professional and most people are extremely happy with their results. For a $10 manicure and a $20 pedicure, you will not be disappointed, and neither will your nails!

Best Sunless Tan: XtremeAirFX
Located at 1208 South Main Street, XtremeAirFX provides an inexpensive and realistic alternative to UV Ray tanning. For only $15 and about 15 minutes, you can come out looking like you have just been lying on the beach all day! You can also have a group tanning party of 10 or more. XtremeAirFX does many fundraising proceeds days for JMU organizations.

Many JMU women who have gone there were very happy with their tans and the prices because airbrush tans can become expensive. The owner has years of experience, so your tan is sure to come out great! Visit their website to schedule an appointment and see what XtremeAirFX can do for you!
