The 7 Stages of Realizing You Have to Try Again

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

1. Arriving to JMU for fall semester, not a care in the world.

I mean, what could there possibly be to worry about at this beautiful school?

2. Then your classes start. Syllabus week is a joke, and your teachers hardly cover any real information.

This is going to be your easiest semester yet, you can tell. You’ll probably coast by.

3. Then you get your first assignment.

Honestly, it’s fine…it just took like 45 minutes, that’s nothing. You still have time for your Netflix marathon of Stranger Things.

4. Then the projects come rolling in.

Group project due on Thursday, paper due next Friday, presentation in two weeks. But those are far enough away, you’re fine.

5. But then the deadlines approach.

You find yourself at the library, but you insist you’re only there for like an hour. You thought the paper would write itself, but after staring at your outline for an hour while your coffee got cold, you aren’t so sure.

6. And right when you’re at your weakest… the exam.

It was on that stupid syllabus the entire time, but sure enough, you have an exam later this week. On top of everything else, you now need to go through all of the readings and lectures to make a dent on those flashcards.

7. You embrace the library.

Team Carrier or Team Rose or some other building on campus, you’ve now made it your home. You’ve accepted life as a library rat, and you only hope that someone will bring you a snack and maybe a blanket.
