How to Dress When the Weather Can’t Make Up It’s Mind

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JHU chapter.

Lately we’ve been having a lot of fun with the weather. One week it’ll be in the 50s and the next, it’ll be in the 70s. Some of us are too lazy to check the weather every day but end up dressing warmly when it’s already warm outside or vice versa. These are some options for dressing for the constantly changing weather.

  • Layers: This is so important. Layers are really nice when the weather is all over the place because you can put more on when it’s cold or remove pieces of clothing when it’s too warm. This means cardigans, hoodies, zip-ups, etc.

  • Coats: Rather than wearing thicker coats, it’s nice to wear a trench coat or a light outer coat such as a leather jacket. These can be thrown over shorter sleeved tops or also over longer sleeved tops and they’re really versatile. The thinner sort of outerwear prevents you from being too warm but also keeps you warmer when it’s chilly outside.

  • Scarves: Scarves are actually amazing at keeping you warm and they’re easily removed when it gets too warm. They’re so stylish in the fall especially if you wear a beautifully patterned scarf against a plain top to allow the scarf to stand out as your accessory.

  • Tights/leggings: These are an essential if you still want to wear a skirt or dress during the fall. Don’t go for the really thin kind but the slightly warmer sort. You can still wear those warm-weather outfits but when paired with tights, they turn into fall appropriate outfits.

  • Booties: Knee-high or over-the-knee boots can be too insulating for 60s to 70s but booties are a good alternative. They still keep your feet warm when it’s 50 outside but won’t be too overbearingly hot when it gets warmer.
