Time flies by when you’re having fun, as the cliché goes. But even if you are not having the time of your life sitting in your Introduction to Chemistry II class amongst three hundred cutthroat pre-meds—all while not understanding a word the professor says, time still passes quickly. Exams come and go without much preparation; it is all on you to figure out what you know and don’t know. While this process of figuring out what you know seems quite trivial and automatic, it is the only way to succeed. Yes, each class we attend is around $70 and it feels like a heavy weight of guilt if you miss just one. After all, are you paying a fortune to sleep in?

On the contrary, you are paying an expensive tuition to get the best education you can. Sometimes that involves sleeping, which consolidates memory and is necessary to fully comprehend information. Sometimes that involves studying the information on your own instead of hearing a professor teach that you cannot understand. I’m not saying don’t go to class ever, but sometimes you need to do something different to further your own learning.

College is largely an individual experience, and so it is time to learn what is best for you.
