Things to Look Forward To in The Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Officially speaking, autumn started a few weeks ago, but many signs over the last couple of days seemed to indicate that it might be time to finally accept the fact that fall has arrived. It was cold and rainy; moreover, everyone was sick, and flu shots were starting to be delivered. The biggest sign has to be the fact that we are now officially in October now as well! The dark and cold days of fall make me sad, but there are some great things about fall that I look forward to as well. Here are some of them so you and I can be a little optimistic in this falling season.

There is nothing like adding two or three more blankets to your bed as the weather cools. Moreover, it has become time to open last year’s boxes and pull out sweaters, cardigans, jeans, and more. Fall offers an abundance of styling options, and they are all so comfortable and cozy.

With falling leaves and cold weather comes autumn-themed food. Now there’s the typical pumpkin and apple flavored stuff. I think stores are having extra fun this year making up fall merchandise; like have you seen Trader Joe’s leaf-shaped tortilla chips? But also, there’s this urge to eat more soups and warm and filling food. I’ve been having my fair share of chicken noodle soup and pho, and it’s made me very happy.

  1. Sad Girl Fall Music

I don’t know if it is just me, but when the seasons change, so does my taste in music. For the last two days, I’ve been listening to all of Fujii Kaze’s discography on repeat. Overall, I think my music becomes calmer, more peaceful, and more solemn as the cold creeps in, but there definitely is a mix of more hype songs as well in my playlists. Also, it is fun to turn on some fun Halloween classics like “Thriller” or “Calling All The Monsters” to reminisce about being 10 years old again.

  1. Fall Activities

Fall has some cliche activities that one is obligated to do. The typical include apple and pumpkin picking, but there are others such as candy apples, pumpkin painting, hay-rides, haunted houses, trick-or-treating, and scary movies. Personally, a rainy night of snacks, hot chocolate, and an old Halloween movie right when the leaves have all turned orange and red sounds perfect.

  1. Nature

Fall is annoying when it’s freezing cold in the morning and evenings but humid and heavy at noon. But it becomes such an amazing time when the leaves change colors and start falling down. I’m often mesmerized by how they fall and swirl around like colorful confetti. On the Jefferson campus especially, fall comes elegantly and provides quite the view. Last year I would often spot deer in the early morning on campus as well. The animals mixed with the crisp air and the rustling leaves leave you with a refreshing feeling.
