This past semester, I did not end up doing as well as I wanted to in Anatomy and Physiology I. To me, that equates to failing…even though my grade was passing and keeps in on track for my major (Pre-Med). Let me be clear first, my definition of failing is not getting to reach a goal or falling short of it.

When I first checked my grade, I was hoping to not see an average grade. I put a lot of work into studying actively and using different strategies to review materials in class, but two poor exam grades can really do a lot to your grade and the past semester was hard for me emotionally.

The decision to retake Anatomy and Physiology I was totally 100% my decision. When I made the decision, I had supportive friends and my parents remind me that I am strong for being determined enough to make the decision to retake the class while also dealing with taking A&P II at the same time.

So, the big question I asked myself overbreak was “So you have to retake a class…what are you going to do about it?” and here’s the list I made:

1. Start fresh, go into the first day of class with an open mind.

2. Remember to practice self-care when emotional factors are clouding your mind during exam periods.

3. Don’t be embarrassed, remind yourself that you are working hard to improve your knowledge in the subject and your GPA in the long run.

4. Remember your future self applying to medical school will thank you.

5. Reach out for support when you need it.

I hope everyone is having a good start to the semester! In two months-ish, we will have more sunlight and warmer days! Hang in there!

I am just a pre-med student who has a big passion for all things public health, lover of the sun, and tea!
