Little Ways to Stay Happy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

         Stay Happy!

February and March are definitely months when people start to get super depressed about all of the snow and freezing rain. I found that I was feeling pretty sad and not enjoying my days as much recently, so I came up with some ways for myself to stay happy and positive despite the gloomy weather.

-Sticky notes

Recently I’ve been hanging up sticky notes on my wall with little doodles and quotes to keep me positive. Every morning I wake up to a little collage of positivity and it totally brightens my day. I’ve also started asking my friends to write some for some outside positivity and new inspiration.

 -New music

I have a habit of listening to the same artists over and over again. As much as I love a familiar sound, it’s been super cool finding new bands and singers to listen to. It’s super easy to find bands with a sound you’re interested by seeing what other bands come up when you search them on YouTube or Spotify. I’ve had so much fun making new playlists and asking my friends for band recommendations.

-Have goals

Obviously I have long-term goals like graduating college and working someplace that I’ll be happy, but having goals in general for the end of the week is good too! Organizing my schedule and making sure I have time to do everything is super helpful because it gives me the ability to have goals for my work and for myself.

-Take selfies

I used to never take selfies because I thought it was super self-centered. But recently I’ve been taking cute mirror pictures to show off my outfits and my makeup. It totally brings up my self-confidence and brightens my day when I’m able to appreciate a good outfit.

-Get off social media

Like a lot of people, I spend a lot of time scrolling Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook. As interesting as other people’s lives can be, it gets super repetitive and can be detrimental to my own confidence and happiness. Now, I set limits for how many times I go on social media and when I end up staring at my phone for no reason, I take the time to look up and observe the people around me or have a real conversation.
