The Top 5 Songs and Movies of 2014

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

2014 was a great year for movies, music, and more. Here at Her Campus JCU, we ranked our top 5 songs and movies from throughout the year.

Music:

1. Shake It Off

Cause the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. And no matter what you think of Taylor Swift (even though, frankly, she does not care), you will dance and sing along to this song at the top of your lungs. It’s the ultimate anthem of 2014.

2. All About That Bass

This song is all about accepting yourself for who you are, which we honestly need more of in modern music. It’s no treble to build up our self-esteem.

3. Bang Bang

Okay, when you combine the amazing voices of Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande, you can’t really go wrong. Divas rule these vocals.

4. Maps

This song helped us forgive Maroon 5 for the extremely offensive video for “Animals.” So, it is very important to the lives of fans everywhere.

5. Fancy

Now you can say phrases like, “First thing’s first, I’m the realest.” And no one will look at you like you are completely conceited or crazy. I also have to jam out to this every time I get dressed up for something.

Movies:

1. Guardians of the Galaxy

If the amazing soundtrack wasn’t enough for you, Chris Pratt’s muscles and beautiful face should be. Basically, if you haven’t seen it, go right now.

2. The Fault in Our Stars

This was the teen romance of the year, but it was also one of our favorites. As an adaptation of the heart-wrenching novel by John Green, it was a must-see for book lovers everywhere. Also, if you are not in love with Augustus Waters by the end of the film, there may be something wrong with you. Okay? Okay.

3. Divergent

Shailene Woodley has been taking over Hollywood this year, and we are so happy to see it. Even though this is the underdog to the Hunger Games franchise, we loved the adaptation and can’t wait for the next movies!

4. Gone Girl

If you’re into twist endings, crime movies, or one of the most original and interesting scripts to hit the big screen in a long time, then you would love this movie. It will make your heart pound in all the right ways.

5. Top Five

This up-coming hilarious and touching film starring Chris Rock looks like a must-see for the holiday season. It will be released on December 12th, and we can’t wait to see it in theaters! Check out the trailer here!

Brittany, a Senior at JCU, has a passion for tea, books, writing, and London. As an English major, you can usually find her curled up with a good book somewhere on-campus (usually in O'Malley). She loves everything about Her Campus, and she finds it extremely exciting and rewarding to be a Campus Correspondent!
