What’s Next for Rex?

Want to learn more about a super cool student, musician, YouTuber, and genuine friend from John Carroll University? If so, keep reading!

Name: Rex Larkman

Age: 20

Intended Major: Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC)

What are you involved with on campus? I am in the Jazz band and work in the ITS apartment as a videographer and video editor.

Is it hard to balance school, social life, and the band? It is not too hard to balance social life and school work because I still have a lot of downtime, but most of my outside activities are devoted to the band to better myself in my music.

What instruments do you play and when did you start playing them? I play the bass, the piano, the drums, and sing. I was nine when I started drumming and started playing bass last year. Two years ago I started piano and singing.

What is the name of your band? Who Hit Me!

When did the band form and how did you all meet? The band formed in February of 2015. I first met our bass player, Steve, five years ago and met John here at JCU. On my seventeenth birthday, I met our guitarist, Drew. I was searching around on the musician section on Craigslist and clicked on his ad that said, “Any drummer with two arms and two legs, contact me.”

What is your dream venue that you hope to perform at in the future? Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio.

Where is the coolest place you have performed? I played at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the Tri-C High School Rock Off for the band Candela. Steve, our current bass player, was in Candela as well.

What is the best part about John Carroll University? I love that JCU is so similar to my high school, Saint Ignatius. I was glad to find out that John Carroll carried similar ideals such as tradition and camaraderie.

What are your favorite things to do in your free time? Editing videos and creating unique content for my YouTube channel, RandomRex1, is probably my favorite thing to do because in the long run I am promoting both the band and myself. And of course I love hanging out with friends!

Where is your favorite place on campus to practice your music? In the band room! Whenever I can practice, I will.

Before we leave, there something else I really want to know. What is your favorite food? Fettuccini Alfredo!

Least favorite food? Peanut butter!
