Get to Know Kathleen Mackey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

Name: Kathleen Mackey

Year: Sophomore

Major: Digital Media

Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA

What clubs/organizations are you involved in around campus?

Since my freshman year, I’ve been actively involved with The Carroll News. I started out writing for Arts & Life and have since become an editor for the section with Omar Meza.

What are your duties as an editor for Arts & Life?

As an editor, I work with Omar to come up with story ideas each week and assign them to the Arts & Life writers. Once the stories are written, we edit them and compile them on the pages using InDesign and Photoshop. Overall, it’s our responsibility to make sure that the stories are edited for grammatical and AP style errors, as well as ensure that they look visually appealing on the page for the reader.

What has been your favorite JCU memory so far?

It’s so hard for me to pick just one but I do remember during the beginning of this school year, I moved in a few days early so I could have a couple days to catch up with my friends before classes and school work started. I remember being so excited to be back Carroll which felt really good because moving in the year before, as a freshman, I was absolutely petrified. It was just really fun to spend the last few days of summer with my closest friends here before we had priorities and were stressed out about school again.

What is your dream job?

I’ve always thought it would be so cool to be a writer for The Ellen Show or Jimmy Fallon.

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch on Netflix?

I always try to binge-watch new popular shows but I usually get bored of them and ultimately end up rewatching The Office or Friends because they’ll always be my favorite.

Do you have any big plans for spring break? If so, what are they?

I don’t have anything major planned! I’m just looking forward to catching up with friends from home and attempting to get my sleep schedule back to normal.
