Campus Celebrity: Nate Marugg

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

Name: Nate Marugg

Hometown: Carey, Ohio

Year: Senior

Major: Accounting

Nate is an active participant in all things theater at John Carroll, including the 2015 One Acts. He plays “Henry” in The Actor’s Nightmare.

HC: What other theater have you done at Carroll?

My sophomore year, I did the mainstage Legally Blonde as the “Father” and part of the ensemble. Last year, my junior year, I did the first one act musical at Carroll Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. Last year I also did and another one act called Spotlight.

HC: How does the One Act process differ from the mainstage?

During my various performances, I’ve seen the One Acts are more free-form. For the mainstage, you follow the director’s words, almost to the tee. Also, there’s usually a larger case for the mainstage and the One Acts usually have a cast of no more than five people.

HC: Can you give us a little background of the show you’re in?

Nate: Well, the whole story of the show focuses on a man who walks into a theater and becomes the star of the show. The character that I play is one of the main co-actors in various scenes, including interpretations of Shakespeare.

HC: What have been some of your favorite performances outside of Carroll?

I’ve really only done theater in high school. Probably my two favorite roles are Laurie in Little Women and King Herod/Apostle in Jesus Christ Superstar.

HC: Would you recommend auditioning for the mainstage spring production of Sweet Charity?

Most definitely I would. I believe that anyone should try out for theater at least once. Your experience in theater is indescribable. I can only say you need to do it.

Come support Nate and the rest of the cast of the One Acts this Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm in the Marinello Little Theater. Tickets are $10 at the door and $7 if you call ahead to reserve. If you live on campus, you get in for free!

See you there!
