Young Bosses and Entrepreneurs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

If I was a man, I would be highly concerned right now because young women all over the world are surpassing the limits of success. Women have taken over and it is the most inspirational and motivating era that I am so proud to be apart of. Us as women don’t receive the recognition that we so effortlessly deserve. The tribulations we endure as women are far more challenging than any man can handle. I personally, have been able to witness the greatness that young women my age have been able to pursue and maintain.

I commend the ones who are working hard on their businesses independently and simultaneously with either another job, school, or both. It is hard to have your own business, and even harder to have it young, while being a woman. And let me really take the time to applaud my black girls who despite the doubts and torments have continued the race to success. Our great women ancestors have paved the way for us to have the businesses that we have today.

These legends include: Madam C.J. Walker who was the first African American woman to create cosmetic and hair care products for African Americans. The infamous Coco Chanel, who once was known as “the little black dress” but soon became a fashion mogul. We then have Maggie Lena Walker who was the first African American women to create her own bank using her own funds.

These women have contributed so much to what we have now which has allowed us not only access to the resources that we have now but it gives us something to reflect on and to motivate us. Women have gained such lead way in terms of careers and overcoming gender bias.

Women have been dominating the roles in their careers for awhile now, continuing to be the leaders and strongholds of their occupations. For centuries now it has been known for women and men to have a difference in pay. At least a 40% to 60% gap in wages. Men have been known to be more superior and dominant in the career fields which is why they are most known to have the higher positions in their jobs.

I encourage all women to continue to prosper and thrive in their businesses and fields. Don’t let any man make you feel less inferior in your career or business. Be encouraged through your toughest times despite your doubts and fears. As women, we must continue to push forth together. Let’s continue the race to success ladies.
