Romance Movie Scenes That Help Me Believe In Love

I live in two worlds. While I live in reality, I also live in a world of movies. A world with happy endings, grand adventures, perfect kisses, and some of the best laughs. When the real world gets to be too harsh, I can escape into movies and live a thousand different lives. I am made up of pieces of every person and every film I have watched. Romantic comedies hold a special place in my heart, with each rewatch renewing my faith in true love and that love is somewhere for me.

Down to You (2000)

The way that Imogen is so fully unaware there are other people in the room as she is dancing for Al. Watching this scene gives me faith that there is someone out there who will only see me; someone who will remind me that the eyes of other people don’t mean anything and you should live in your own joy. Down to You also has one of my all-time favorite movie lines ever.

“That kiss belongs in a box so I can show my grandkids one day.”

The way that this line has me giggling and kicking my feet for love has yet to be matched.

A Lot Like Love (2005)

The way I think about this movie and Oliver getting his ducks in a row before being able to find love is probably my Roman Empire. While the idea of right person, wrong time seems outlandish, I am charmed by the fact that they are able to move in and out of each other’s lives picking up where they left off to advance their love story along. Not everyone in your life is going to stay, but the ones that do and the ones that find their way back to you are those that truly matter.

Sweet Home Alabama (2002)

Short and to the point, “So I can kiss you anytime I want”. This line is peak romance to me and the fact that they are children the first time he says it, but keeps repeating throughout their relationship.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Kat breaks my heart reading this poem, but reminds me that opening yourself up to others helps you grow as a person and even if you end up heartbroken you will be okay in the end. Kat’s journey from the misanthrope to someone willing to cry in class is a journey of love and loss and shows me that the world keeps spinning even when you think it stops.

The world of film is always there for me to turn to. The characters aren’t perfect, but they are still trying and reminds me that everyone makes mistakes. People break up, they fail classes, they get fired, but they still get up and keep moving through life. There is a magic in movies, a magic where I get to experience the lives of others and live a thousand different lives.
