How To Survive Rainy Days

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

Everyone knows that IUP really stands for ‘It Usually Precipitates’ (and totally not anything related to drinking like ‘I Usually Party’). Whether you attend IUP or another college, you’re going to need to know how to deal with soggy and humid weather. From experience, I’ve gathered my own collection of tips that helped me get through plenty of rain showers and downpours on campus.

1) Keep an umbrella with you AT ALL TIMES.

Don’t be the kid that shows up to class drenched in rain water. Try to always keep a small compact umbrella somewhere in your backpack.

Tip: Don’t forget to put the umbrella back in your book bag after it’s all dried off. There have been many times when I reached for my umbrella and it wasn’t there. *sad face*

2) If you don’t already own rain boots, go out and buy some!

Who likes when their socks and shoes get all wet and have that squishy feeling? NO ONE! Save yourself the agony and purchase a pair of rain boots or waterproof shoes. Target has some super adorable rain boots right now, or you could always try a local store near you. Not only will you have dry feet all day, but you can jump in puddles and look cute doing it!

3) Hairspray, hairspray, hairspray.

Hairspray is a great product to keep your hair safe from humidity. I spray hairspray all over my hair before I leave and it helps keep me from looking like a lion. Any brand will work, but try to look out for ‘anti-humidity’ hairspray. That’s the good stuff!

4) Water proof jacket.

Umbrella’s do keep you dry, but sometimes the rain can get onto your clothes as well, especially if it is windy outside. Rain jackets or any type of waterproof jackets are an important clothing item for when it’s downpouring outside and you don’t want to feel your damp clothes sticking to your skin. You’ll thank me later for this one.

5) Make sure that you have a Netflix subscription.

Somedays when it’s raining, you just want to cuddle up under the blankets and watch some Netflix. There’s nothing wrong with staying indoors and binge watching an entire season of Bob’s Burgers (my favorite). We’ve all been there! Put on your comfiest pajamas, grab some snacks, and prepare yourself for a lazy day!
