The Best Distractions In Life Are Free: Websites We Love, Besides Facebook

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

Many of us are guilty of using the Internet to kill time during those boring, long lectures or rainy days inside. However, while we are killing time, we are also killing the newsfeeds of our Facebook friends with an overload of “I am SOOO bored” posts. While Facebook is a great source of distraction, I am here to provide you with some underrated web options that can be more fun than changing your profile picture ten times in a row.

1.     www.twitter.com What better forum to vent about how much you can’t stand a class or how little sleep you got last night? Mention your friends, follow your favorite celeb’s recent thoughts, or even start a new trend. #HCIU

2.     www.stumbleupon.com What is more entertaining than literally “stumbling upon” something new on the web? Click on your interests and stumble away. You can even send what you find to your friends who also stumble.

3.     www.pinterest.com Imagine a website of cool things that cool people found on the Internet. Well – this actually exists. With the surplus of interesting tattoos, tasty baked goods, intricate room designs and more, Pinterest will keep you browsing for hours.

4.     www.someecards.com You’d be surprised at how hard you will laugh from this wide range of obscure e-cards. From the hot topics of the day to quirky “Get Well” wishes, e-cards will change the way you look at greeting cards for good.

5.     www.textsfromlastnight.com This collection of funny texts will keep you laughing for days. While this may seem like old news and something you used to skim through in high school, you are never too old to read these hilarious texts.

6.     www.thecollegetownlife.com I present to you: the college bible. This website provides you with hilarious articles, outrageous pictures, and amazing music that every college student can appreciate. Of course many pictures are provided by Indiana students because let’s be honest, who does college better than us?

7.     www.betcheslovethis.com For the girls – Betches is a goddess. From articles about everyday betch-y debates such at Iced-Coffee, fro-yo, and dating deal breakers, this betch will never cease to amaze you.

8.     www.youtube.com Plug in your headphones and tone out the lecture, or your roommate, completely with your favorite music video or just a funny SNL skit that you missed.

9.     www.hulu.com TV shows and movies galore, what could be better for a college student on a lazy Sunday?

10.www.hercampus.com/iu Okay I am totally biased – but reading Her Campus is an excellent and fun way to kill time when you are bored. Reading articles that were written by IU students, for IU students, what could be better?
