Campus involvement:
ICTV – Poutine on the Fritz
Model United Nations
Buzzsaw Magazine, Multimedia Editor/Seesaw
IC Voicestream

What brought you to IC?
Well, for one… the vibe of the town. The size of the school wasn’t too big, not too small, and that was a plus. I also knew I wanted a school that wasn’t JUST focused on Communications/Film. I had always planned on studying some form of History in college, so after looking into IC’s History program, things just fell into place.

What are you involved in?
I try to keep myself busy with a well balanced, group of extracurricular activities. Each specific club satisfies something in particular. With MUN (Model United Nations), I get to research current events and speak in public, with Buzzsaw (more intimately Seesaw) I get to work on mini-documentaries and journalistic work, and with Voicestream, I get to sing on stage with a bunch of friends.
Poutine on the Fritz sort of began as an experiment or a self-challenge. I always think of it as the culmination of everything I’ve learned about production here at Ithaca College. Now,we’re just trying to make it the best thing that’s ever aired on ICTV!

Why are you involved in them?
Because college costs a loaaaaad of money. In order to really get your money’s worth out of four years here, you’ve got to immerse yourself in every club the grabs your attention. Freshman year, I cast a wide net and joined a dozen clubs. By sophomore year, my extracurricular life became more focused when I joined the MUN team and got into Voicestream.

What’s your favorite thing about …(any of the orgs you put down)?
The best part of being in Voicestream is having the opportunity to perform on stage with a group of incredible people. Plus you’re recreating pop songs and random indie songs in a new, radically different way. The whole process, from arranging, to rehearsing, to our block concerts is a blast.
MUN is great. Where else do you get the opportunity to get into debates with kids from Ivy League Schools, (and kids around the world, for that matter) about things like refugees, definitions of torture, and child health. Also, the people in the club here at Ithaca are out of their minds; and I mean that in the best way possible.

What’s your dream job/position?
Reporter/Researcher for NPR, or the Creator of a PBS edutainment type show like Wishbone, with a focus on historical events and such.

What do you do outside of …..(whatever you do)?
When I’ve got free moments, I play guitar. Record music. Just gotta keep the creative juices flowing whenever I leave campus.

You’re a senior! What’s something you’re determined to do in your last semester?
I want to go on more hikes in the Ithaca area! I’ve been in town during the summer and it’s beautiful. When the weather gets better, I’m determined to go hiking every chance I get. My family recently moved to California and with that transition, they’ve adopted a more outdoorsy lifestyle. Me wanting to hike out here on the East Coast is my extension of that.

Anything you’ve got coming up for … (said orgs)?
Check out Poutine on the Fritz when it airs at the end of the semester. It’ll blow your mind…all over your face. Also, of course, Voicestream has two block concerts every semester (and is releasing a CD this year!), so there’s that!

KC Weston is a sophomore at Ithaca College currently studying Communication, Management, and Design in the Park School of Communications, with a concentration in Corporate Communications and a minor in African Diaspora Studies. KC is currently a member of IC Voicestream, Ithaca College's premier co-ed a capella group, and founder of Diversity in Action, a discussion based student organization focusing on discussing issues of age, ability, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, race, belief system, and socio-economic status. She also is a contributing writer to both 360 magazine, IC's narrative-style publication and to Buzzsaw Magazine, IC's alternative- style magazine. KC is also a student tour guide, an MLK Scholar, and a volunteer at the Ithaca State Theatre. When not rushing to a meeting, writing, or living in the library, KC enjoys performing with her band, Second Dam, watching the worst movies Netflix has to offer, and (most importantly) relxaing. In the future she hopes to live abroad for a couple years after college and /or to later work as a performer or work with performers by running a concert and event venue or booking company.
