8 Things to Do With All of Those Apples You Picked

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

So, you went apple picking with your friends or family, and you accidentally picked too many. Now, you have 40 lbs. of apples and don’t know what to do with them. Here are some ways to get rid of all of those apples and free up some space in your fridge.

1. Eat Them

Okay, this one is very obvious, but I had to put it out there. You can eat them whole or cut them up and dip them in some caramel if you’re craving something sweet. Dogs love eating apples too, so if you have any furry friends, they’ll probably guilt you into sharing.

2. Freeze Them

If you have too many apples and want to save some for later, you can freeze them for up to a year.

3. Give Them Away

If you don’t think you’ll eat or use all of your apples and don’t want to take up all of your freezer space, give some away to your friends or relatives. People love apples and your loved ones will definitely appreciate the gesture.

4. Make a Pie

Most people love pies, and apple pies are an American classic. Bonus: making pies makes you feel like Snow White.

5. Make an Apple Crisp

If you aren’t a fan of pies or are looking for another treat you can make, crisps are great alternatives. They’re basically the same, but crisps have a crumble on top and no crusts.

6. Make Applesauce

There’s nothing like homemade applesauce. All you need is a Crock-Pot and a ton of apples (they cook down quite a bit). You can eat it hot or cold and add sugar and spices based on your own preferences.

7. Make Caramel/Candy Apples

Caramel and candy apples are delicious and make super cute pictures, but beware: they are very sticky and messy.

8. Carve Them

It’s a bit tedious, but you can actually carve apples like pumpkins! My friend did this one year and it was so cool looking.
