Trends To Try: Spring 2013

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Spring is the time for a fresh start, a new perspective, a time for change. There’s no reason why your wardrobe shouldn’t follow suit. Some of the top trends of spring 2013 offer you great ways to freshen up your look and head into the next season with your best (dressed) foot forward.

Trend #1: Floral

Flowers are in full bloom in the spring, so why shouldn’t your clothes reflect that? The floral prints of this season range from loud and brightly colored to soft and subdued in pastel colors making it easy for everyone to find something they like. Another plus? Floral prints can be found on basically any and every article of clothing or accessory imaginable. J. Crew’s “Liberty toothpick jean in June’s Meadow floral” is one of my favorites for this season.

Trend #2: Black and White

When we think of spring, we often think of soft pastel colors, making the harsh, monochromatic combination of black and white seem like a bit of a wildcard. However, we should’ve known this was going to be a hot trend when we saw Beyoncé rock a black and white pant suit at this year’s Grammy’s.

This trend screams classiness and refinement as we can see from Beyoncé’s look, but it’s also easy to incorporate into our everyday wardrobe. This black and white striped crop top is perfect for a casual spring look.

Trend #3: Leather

Another not so obvious trend making a splash this spring is leather. What was once thought of as a heavy, winter-only fabric has now been given a lighter touch perfect for warmer weather. Instead of only seeing leather in the classic black biker jacket, we now see it in pants, skirts and shirts in not just black, but a variety of colors. The added versatility of this trend makes it easy to incorporate into many different spring looks, whether it be a leather peplum top with colored jeans on a night out or a cream colored leather jacket to liven up a casual dress on the way to class.

Any one of these trends is sure to give your look just the boost it needs for spring 2013. So let’s say goodbye to winter and head into spring looking fresh, fun and fashionable!
