If you’re anything like me, the 100-degree heat domes of Illinois are really putting a damper on this summer. What is the point of summer weather if you can’t lay out at the pool without sweating to death? Instead, I sit in my apartment’s A/C, watching my beautiful tan fade and dreaming of the five wonderful days I spent last month on the Spanish island of Majorca.

I should preface this post with the fact that when you’re living in the U.K., like I was in June, going to Spain is not as expensive as it might sound. I promise I am by no means a well-off or pretentious traveler. My boyfriend and I managed to get all five nights at an all-inclusive resort and flights for a VERY good price. A popular summer destination, our resort was populated entirely with Brits, a few Germans, and one American (eh hem, me).

We stayed at the Sol Calas resort on the western side of the island. I would absolutely recommend it. While the resort is nothing fancy, it has several great pools and an inexpensive all-inclusive package for great drinks and tons of food. Our days were filled with drinks by the pool, tennis, and generally doing absolutely nothing. We even participated in some fun (if not tacky) family entertainment in the evenings. Majorca is the largest Balearic Island with 300 days of sunshine a year, so you really can’t go wrong!
Amazing views of the Balearic Sea on our hotel pool deck.
While we managed to barely venture off the resort, Majorca has a lot more to offer than just beautiful views and sandy beaches. The city of Palma is home to great shops, dining, nightlife, and a beautiful cathedral known as La Seu. If I ever get the chance to visit Majorca again, I will definitely be taking a day to explore the city. Until then, I am just going to crank the air a little more and imagine I’m back the pool, sipping a Piña Colada.
