We’ve hit that point in the semester where a day off is something of the past. Midterms, projects and a giant workload all have taken a front seat in our lives. Things can get really hectic sometimes and it feels like you’re running on empty through the days. The need to feel productive seems to be the culprit. I have always felt like if I’m not doing something I consider productive, I’m just wasting time. But what if I told you that a good “reset” day can be just as beneficial and productive as actively doing work? I like to take Sundays as my reset days to do the things I wouldn’t normally do during the week. Below are my personal recommendations on how to maximize your Sunday reset.

Wash your sheets

This is something that I do not normally do on a regular basis, but have slowly incorporated it into a weekly routine! I used to be so bad at remembering to wash my bedding, but now I have definitely gotten better at keeping up with it. My little tip for college is to bring two sets of linens so that you can make your bed with the second set while you’re washing the first set. The worst thing is forgetting to take your sheets out of the dryer until late that night and realizing you’re way too tired to remake the bed. Having a second set will help you avoid that problem. If you have white or light-colored bedding, I have found the best way to wash it is on a medium spin cycle with warm water (thanks, Mom).

Meal prep for the week

This tip is especially useful if you live in an apartment or if you’re just cooking most of your meals anyway. I don’t like doing the whole chicken, broccoli and rice prep for the week, but I will prepare a couple of things to make life easier at the end of a long school day. Sometimes this will be as simple as going to the grocery store with a list of ingredients for a specific meal. Other times I will chop and slice produce that I know I’ll be eating or needing that week. Having already prepared produce in the fridge also enables you to consume more of it! Sometimes I will go through Pinterest to look at potential recipes that I want to make that week so I have an idea of what I can prepare ahead of time.

Self-care

Sunday is a perfect day to indulge in some extra self-care. This can be anything you want it to be: going on a long walk, making a nice meal, adding extra steps to your skincare routine or all of the above! Taking some time for your well-being never hurts. I like to end my Sundays with an “everything” shower, a face mask after that shower and lounging around in my pajamas for the remainder of the evening. In my experience, doing that and drinking some calming tea helps me sleep like a baby through the night. A good night’s sleep is essential for me to feel like myself on Monday!
