I think one of the best book genres that has skyrocketed lately is fantasy. Years ago, with books like The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings, people enjoyed them, but unfortunately, there wasn’t much diverse representation in these books. No hate to these series, they are both very well-written, well-loved and were important building blocks in creating this book genre. I just think that there was a lack of female and diverse voices in these stories. In recent fantasy books, the majority of the stories are from a multitude of perspectives, which has made fantasy a much more sex and race-inclusive genre that more readers can identify with and enjoy! With that being said, here are a few recommendations for 2024 fantasy books for you to add to your TBR!

The Crescent City Series by Sarah J Maas

Sarah J Maas has lots of amazing series, from the YA classic Throne of Glass to her adult series, A Court of Thorns and Roses. All of these books are amazing, and once you start reading them, you won’t be able to put them down! But the reason I listed Crescent City is because she just published the third book in the series, which is called House of Flame and Shadow. This book is a wrap-up of the major conflicts of the series, but I think there may be one more book in the series! Basically, the Crescent City series follows a half-human and half-fae woman, Bryce, and her adventures in a low-fantasy world! But, if you are more of a fan of high fantasy, start with Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses, and then read Crescent City!

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

I have yet to read this book (it’s been on my TBR forever!) but I’ve heard really good things about it! Ali Hazelwood has written a lot of romance books like The Love Hypothesis, Love Theoretically and Love on the Brain. I think this is her first purely “fantasy” book, so it’ll be interesting to see how the story turns out compared to her science-based romance stories! In Bride, a vampire and a werewolf form an alliance and fall in love in the process. Check it out or add it to your TBR!

Of Jade and Dragons by Amber Chen

In this book, a girl must disguise herself as a boy in order to infiltrate a guild and unravel how her father was murdered. It’s essentially a modern, fantasy take on the beloved classic, Mulan! I’m such a fan of modern retellings, so I’m super psyched about this. I definitely recommend it!

Some of my other honorable mentions are Beasts of War, The Dissonance, and The Warm Hands of Ghosts! I hope you all enjoyed these recommendations, thank you for reading!
