Top 5 Ways To Make Money In College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

It’s the time of the year where you want some money for all the summer activities! Here are a few easy and non-time consuming ways to make some extra cash.

1. DD –If you have a car or one of your friends does, be a Designated Driver for a night or more!  The going rate is $1 for on campus rides and $2 downtown per person. To bring in business you can make a Facebook status and tweet about your designated driver availability that night so everyone knows! You can make a lot of money and in just one night. You can decide when you want to do it and it’s a great way to make fast, easy money.

2. Sell your Clothes – There is an ISU group on Facebook where you can upload pictures of item you want to sell and students will buy them. If you are already apart of the ISU groups you can easily find it under “Free and For Sale.” I just found out about this group the other day and it is super cool. Students sell things like clothes, shoes, and jewelry. All you have to do is upload a picture of the item and then people will comment if interested. Like an on-line thrift shop. You can’t beat the prices. Another way to sell clothes would be to bring your unwanted items to Plato’s closet! There is one on Veterans Parkway. So just clean out your closet and get some cash for the things you no longer wear.

3. Shot Girl at Chasers – If you are 19 years old and have a friend that works at Chasers Bar, you could become a shot girl. You get $5 for every tray of shots you sell and you get to keep all your tips. The opportunity is only available on busy weekend nights so it would not affect your class or study schedule. You just let them when you’re free and they will schedule accordingly. Sounds easy and fun to me!

4. Tutor – You can apply to be a tutor for many different subjects at the Visor Center. To be eligible you need a GPA of at least a 2.80 and an “A” or ‘high B’ in the subject you want to teach. You also have to be friendly, patient and able to communicate effectively. If all of these traits apply to you, definitely consider becoming a tutor! 5. Paid Online Surveys – This is one of the easiest ways to make money. There are so many different websites and money can be made while sitting in your room. You even earn $1 for signing up. You can choose various surveys depending on how much money you need and how much time you have.
