Think thin and become healthy today

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

While we study, party, and socialize at school sometimes our minds slip away from concentrating on being healthy. So ladies, here are eight steps for you to think more thin and become healthier while our busy lives control us.

Rainbow Plates. When at the dining center or preparing a meal for yourself; think color. Your plate should NOT consist of all beige/earth toned food. You need those colorful veggies and fruits to maintain a healthy diet.

That soda habit….    Time to cut it. Soda once in a while won’t kill you but consuming more than 1 can/ 12fl oz of any soda will sabotage your diet and make you bloat. If you are addicted that bad, at least go to diet, but that’s honestly not much better for you.

I like to move it, move it. MOVE PEOPLE! While you don’t need to be a gym/exercise addict, get off your butt. Living a sedentary lifestyle is the worst thing possible, and is a problem for most college women. Walk to class, walk to the gym, walk to the coffeehouse, and stop being lazy.

Get cha freak on. We are all in college and honestly most of us like to knock back a couple shots/beers on a Saturday night. Everyone probably knows by now that alcohol has about a trillion calories in it, so why not burn them. Turn on the music and dance a little bit. Nobody will judge you if you dance like a freak, just leave most of your clothing on. The crazier you get = more calories burned.

Oh hey weights, nice to meet you. When we go to the gym the first think we think we need to do is cardio. While cardio is super important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, your muscles are just as important. They go hand in hand. So next time you head to the gym, grab some dumbbells, hit the leg press machine or the miraculous rowing machine for a few minutes. I guarantee you won’t regret it.

It worked for Kate Middleton so it will work for me….  It won’t. Extreme fad diets are not good for you. Period. While that celebrity might look super skinny and amazing after a 10 week weight loss diet. But looks can be deceiving. While you might lose weight, your body can suffer from not getting the vitamins and nutrients it needs. And when people lose weight that fast, it can come back even faster. If you are looking to lose weight, take it slower and healthier. You don’t want to compromise your health to go down a size.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Your meal a day routine might be convenient but if you made each a little smaller and added a small meal or two, your body will thank you. By eating smaller meals more frequently, your body gets the energy it needs all day long so you won’t have that feeling of emptiness or pass out in class in between meals.

I love the way I am. The healthiest thing on Earth is to love yourself, and everything about you. If you can look at yourself everyday in the mirror, smile and say this, then the word thin is irrelevant.
