March Madness is magical, and I’m not talking about basketball. Every year, Illinois State University’s Chi Omega Sorority puts on a magical event that makes dreams and wishes come to life. The sorority’s philanthropy is the Make-A-Wish foundation, a non-profit organization that makes it possible for children with life threatening medical conditions to have a “wish” granted.
Each year, Chi Omega organizes a large dance competition involving all of Greek Life at ISU. Each sorority and fraternity is involved, and it gets competitive. At the end of the day, it’s a beautiful way for Greek Life to become united, but most importantly, Chi Omega makes it possible for Make-A-Wish to grant up to seven wishes with the money they raise from this event!
Chairwoman, Teddi Govedarica filled us in, and let us know that this year Chi Omega set their goals higher than ever, and they are hoping to grant eight or even nine wishes.
This event isn’t just a dance competition. This is something that changes the lives of children who aren’t able to live normal lives due to illness. Chi Omega’s March Madness has raised up to $40,000 dollars in previous years, and this year the girl’s set the goal to $45,000. The organization thinks that they raised close to $50,000 dollars, but they will have to wait a few weeks to find out the final amount.
You can feel the magic in the air at March Madness. Everyone takes a break from their busy lives to come together for a brilliant cause: granting wishes. Chi omega March Madness truly feels like a holiday, for those involved, and for those children whose wishes are granted.
