Four Tips To Kicking Ass The Last Month Of College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Spring break has sadly ended, the snow is thankfully melting, and the sun is finally starting to peak through after a long drab winter. While hoping the weather stays this nice, us college students are more than ready for school to be over. But before we pack up our dorms and say hello to summer, it’s time to change gears and buckle up for the last home stretch of school! Here are my top four tips on staying on top of your game and kicking ass in your classes before the year ends.

  1. Enjoy the weather and stay productive

It’s been a while since we’ve seen sunny days, some of us might have forgotten what it even looks like! While the weather gets nicer, it can be easy to want to bring out your shorts, throw off your winter coat, and kick back outside. To take advantage of the beautiful weather we’ve all been longing for but still staying focused on my school work, I like to find a nice place to study outside with friends, or take breaks in-between classes to walk around and get some much needed fresh air.

2. Get out your countdowns and calendars

If there is one thing my Type-A organizational soul loves, it’s filling out a calendar. This can be really important towards the end of the year because professors love to pile on final exams, last minute assignments, and projects all at the last minute. Knowing what you have left to do in classes can help determine what your grades may end up looking like, when you need to have things done by, and when you are officially done with it all! I also like to keep a countdown app in my phone for when summer break starts, just as a little motivation when needed!

3. If you snooze you lose

The last month of school is the time where students either slam down on the gas pedal, or run out of gas completely. Don’t fall behind or get lazy just because the school year is beginning to wind down. This is the most critical time where your grades can make it or break it! Instead try taking small breaks during the day or in the evening so you don’t get too burnt out and overwhelmed.

4. Keep your end goals in sight

Literally keep them in sight. Whether you need to write down your goal GPA and stick it on your wall, or if you’re like me, change your laptop desktop picture to some motivational quote from Pinterest. Remember that these next few weeks left will fly by, leaving you with minimal time to improve your grades. Work hard now so you can feel fully accomplished once summer break begins!

Summer will be here before you know it. Finish the school year strong and give it your all. You’ll be thanking yourself later when you’re lounging on the beach with not a care in the world!
