Did “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” Live Up To My Expectations?

As a big-time Marvel fan, I have been anticipating the release of the Black Panther sequel for what felt like was forever. The wait is over, and the movie is finally here. Of course, I made sure to go see it in theaters during opening weekend. So, did it live up to my expectations? Yes.

The fans were eager to see what the plotline would follow for this sequel; however, many were confused as to what would happen without Chadwick Boseman. Spoilers ahead!

Many predicted that Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, would step by and take her brother’s place as the new Black Panther. I would say very few predicted the reason she would need to step up would be another major character’s death. This was something I did not expect as we all seemed too focused on the King’s death at first. Shuri as the Black Panther did in fact happen, which satisfied many fans while disappointing others. Shuri was left with much responsibility and struggled to find the true meaning of the Black Panther at first.

Personally, one of my favorite aspects of a Marvel movie is the slowed-down fight scenes. I can still recall the excitement I felt watching Avengers: Endgame and seeing a close up of all the female Avengers fighting alongside each other. This movie definitely came through with multiple thrilling scenes. At some point, I literally sat up on the edge of my seat and had to hold back from yelling at the movie screen! Yes, I was that excited.

Think back with me to Marvel’s first Spiderman. Remember when Tony Stark gave Peter a surprise visit? Yes, that iconic scene was the first thing I thought of after Shuri tracks down the “scientist” who turned out to be a 19-year-old college student. I definitely laughed a little too hard during this scene.

Another thing Marvel is commonly known for are the iconic post-credit scenes. As the movie reached an end and people started getting up to leave, I quietly laughed at them in my head, and waited. There was only one post credit scene for this movie, but it is arguably one of the most important post-credit scenes in Marvel history.

The movie’s ending sets up a gateway for a potential Black Panther 3, although it has not been confirmed yet. Till then, I will be eagerly awaiting the new phase of Marvel movies.
