12 Things That Happen When You’re In A Long-Term Relationship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Being in a long-term relationship definitely isn’t the same as being in a relationship that’s just starting out. The longer you’ve been with someone, the more you know about them. You know what makes them happy, sad and crazy. You also know all of their little ticks as well. There are many other things that begin to happen when you’ve been with someone for a long time.

If you’re in a long-term relationship it’s likely that you’ve experienced this:

1. You exit the honeymoon stage…and that’s okay.

Sure, being in the honeymoon stage is new and exciting but let’s face it, once you’re in a relationship with someone for a certain amount of time it goes awayand that’s not a bad thing. It even shows that you and your partner know each other well enough and are confident in your relationship. So, if you’re in a long-term relationship, congratulations, it’s likely that you’ve made it out of the honeymoon stage.

2. You don’t always have to remind each other how in love you are.

There’s no more being that couple who always has to make it known that they’re in love. At a certain point in a relationship, it becomes an unspoken truth.

3.  You are constantly told that you’re an old married couple.

You know you’re a lame old couple when you both agree that you would rather stay in, watch movies and be asleep by midnight than go out. When in reality, it’s a no-brainer.

4. You sometimes have a hard time relating to your single friends.

5.     You can just look at the other person and know what they are thinking.

6. Your significant other looks at you like a fish out of water when you’re wearing makeup…or anything other than sweatpants.

7.  You eat junk food together.

Ordering a salad when you go out to eat is a thing of the past because gaining a little bit of weight isn’t the end of the world anymore.

8.  There is no such thing as an awkward silence.

Silence is a beautiful thing.

9. You’re a package deal.

People automatically include your significant other when they invite you somewhere because they know you’re always together.

10.  You don’t think twice about bodily functions anymore.

11.  You’re not so sweet to each other anymore.

12. But you still love each other just the same as you did when you began dating.
