Things to Do Before the Weather Turns

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HWS chapter.

The weather is starting to slowly turn in Geneva. Some may be very happy because they love the cool fall days with chunky sweaters. Although I love my fall days in leggings and boots, I could use just a few more weeks of summer weather here on campus. But time must go on, so it’s time to make the best of these last few days of sunny and 75. Here you will find a list of things to do before the weather completely turns on us.

1. Go down to the docks.

One of my favorite places to be on campus are the docks. They are pretty all year round and can be a cool photo op when there is a fresh layer of snow, but they are the best when there still is some summer heat. Whether you want to just hang out for a little while to take a break from studying or lay out all day and catch a tan, I can guarantee you won’t regret it!

2. Do some homework outside.

There are seating areas all around campus, and they can be such a peaceful place to take on some readings you were assigned. Sometimes escaping the third floor of the library and changing the scenery is necessary to give you that last push to make it to the weekend.

3. Wear your skirts and dresses.

Although you can wear some fall dresses once the weather cools, they just don’t look as well when your skin isn’t as tan. And let’s face it, when that freezing cold wind hits your legs on that mid-October day, you are going to wish you had shown off that cute outfit when it was a bit warmer out.

4. Get in all the sandals you can.

Your toes need some final breathing room before they go into hibernation. Keep out your sandals as long as you can. Once it is December and you have to leave an extra minute in your morning to put on your boots, you’ll be missing the days when you quickly slipped on your flip flops and rushed out the door.

5. Get in your ice cream fix.

Even though Mr. Twistees has closed for the season (I know, the worst news of this year), there is still Coldstone and Friendly’s to get that sundae you have been craving. To me, ice cream in the winter is like hot chocolate in the summer, it just doesn’t taste as good.

6. Go to a sports game.

Cheering on the statesmen and herons are something everyone on campus should be doing year-round, but it can be much more fun and enjoyable when the weather is still nice. Whether you stay for a while or just stop by on your walk through campus, your fellow student athletes always love the support!

So don’t wait, act now! The weather has probably gotten colder during the time that you read this!
