Campus Celebrity: Rotimi Adeoye ’18

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HWS chapter.

This accomplished musician amazed us with his opening performance for B.o.B. at the beginning of the semester. Meet Rotimi Adeoye!

Class year: 2018

Major: Economics

Minor: Anthropology

HC: Why did you choose to come to HWS?

RA: To be honest, HWS wasn’t really on my radar until I visited. The campus and great community really drew me in.

HC: What are you involved in on campus?

RA: Well, I’m on the debate team and I try to go music events or concerts on campus whenever I can. I love hearing any type of music.

HC: How long have you been performing and what first sparked your interest in music?

RA: I started performing music when I was super young, like at 9 years old I was in youth choirs and things like that. My family is really into choral and classical music so that really influenced me just in terms of my own sound. I really got into hip-hop a little later when I was 13, my family used to travel a lot and when we were driving my parents would give me and my brother an hour to play our music. My brother would always play Jay-Z- “The Black Album” and Snoop Dogg- “Tha Doggfather”. I just kind of started writing my own stuff behind the beats, and that’s how it started.

HC: What was it like opening for B.O.B.?

RA: It was a great experience, performing for me is always so much fun. When I perform I feel like I share apart of myself with people, I really enjoy that. Also, HWS students know how to have a good time.

HC: What are you hoping to accomplish before you graduate?

RA: Musically, I definitely want to finish my own official project/album. I have a lot of stories to share through my music. I’ve released a two mix tapes, but an album with a whole press roll-out would be great and super exciting.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

RA: In 10 years I definitely see myself working in Washington DC with music, if not music, then political activism. That’s something I’ve always been really interested in and passionate about.

HC: What is one thing you couldn’t live without?

RA: Music definitely, and FIFA. FIFA is great.

HC: Do you have anything on your bucket list?

RA: I love traveling. Something I’ve always wanted to do is visit every country in Africa. The music, the culture and everything out there is so vibrant.
