Struggle, perseverance, and fortitude describe the story of twenty-two-year-old Simone Biles. Triumphantly, she has conquered it all and never once let her past define her, as she continues to make history every time she steps foot onto a  gymnasium floor. A winner of five Olympic medals, six all-around titles, and a host of record- breaking stats, this brilliant young woman continues to keep her foot on the gas pedal towards greatness. In fact, this past weekend she broke even more records and became the first to achieve certain never before seen skills. For example, she became the first woman to land a triple-double on the floor exercises, and first person EVER to perform and land a double-double beam dismount. Not only has she managed to accomplish all of these wonderful achievements and make history two times at the recent 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, but she has subsequently forever leveled up and heightened the sport of gymnastics all at the tender age of twenty-two. Undoubtedly, one of the best gymnasts of all time, she continues to leave her all out on the floor displaying nothing but resilience and illustriousness for all of the world to see. In addition, she has been able to use her voice and platform to bring awareness to the unfortunate sexual abuse that she and other young women faced with the U.S.A. Gymnastics organization. Thus, Simone Biles is a survivor, trailblazer, and last but not least champion.

Deni Dedmon is a sophomore speech-language pathology major from Albany, GA. Her first love was writing but her second love was helping others, which led to her choosing a career in speech pathology. When it comes to her writing, she loves to write about everything, from entertainment (she’s an avid Kehlani fan) to book reviews (she’s been reading since the age of one) to controversial topics and current events (ya know, your average angry black girl things). Being the oldest of five girls, she is also passionate about young black girls, their self-esteem, and making sure that they’re proud of being who they are. At the age of seventeen, she became a contributor for MTV Founders and a spring writer for Affinity Magazine.
