The First Live Performance of Folklore’s “Exile” Finally Happened!

After a record breaking week following the drop of her latest album Midnights, Taylor swift surprised the crowd at the Bon Iver concert by making an appearance on stage last night, Wednesday October 26th, in London. The two of them performed “Exile,” their hit duet from Taylor’s album Folklore released in 2020, with the help of Aaron Dessner who helped produce the album. Although as far as I’m concerned any surprise performance by Taylor is a big deal, this is even more exciting because it’s the first time Exile has ever been performed live!!

Justin Vernon (Bon Iver’s real name) began singing the first verse and refrain alone on stage, as the song goes. When the time came for Taylor’s part, she stepped right out from the side in a black long sleeve and dark gray pants, waving hello while waiting for the cheers to die down so she could sing. As the song ended she blew a kiss to the audience, before Justin announced her as: “The most talented person in the world, Taylor Swift!” She responded by saying “The most talented person in the world, Justin Vernon” and “Also the most talented person in the world Aaron Dessner,” giving him a hug before thanking the crowd and leaving the stage. Watch a full video of the performance from the view of the pit here.

In response to this, fans are even more anxiously awaiting the announcement of Taylor’s potential tour she’s constantly been hinting at. The sudden performance of a song from Folklore after just over a month of her Midnight’s era also brings up an important question about it. Being that this is her first tour since the Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018, will it be a combination of everything she has released since then, or will it only be the newest album? We’ll have to wait (hopefully not long) and see!!
