6 Reasons Every Crusader Has to See Gone Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

Gone Girl, originally a book written by Gillian Flynn, has recently come out in theaters. The movie is a thriller that focuses on the mysterious disappearance and possible murder of a beautiful, possibly perfect, woman named Amy Dunne and her husband’s involvement in her disappearance. Honestly, the movie is amazing and here’s why:

  1. Ben AffleckOk lets be real, what girl doesn’t swoon when she sees Ben Affleck shirtless? Affleck stars as Nick Dunne in this riveting film, and it’s debatable for the majority of the movie whether or not he is involved in his wife Amy’s disappearance. Although you might not be rooting for Nick Dunne the entire movie, nobody can deny his astonishingly good looks.
  2. It’s just like the bookUnlike a lot of movies that fail to accurately represent good books, Gone Girl succeeds in its efforts to capture the creepiness and mind blowing plot twists of this novel. The movie will have you hooked from the beginning to the end, just as the book did.
  3. It’s just creepy enoughWhile this movie is a thriller, it’s definitely not horrific. The majority of the movie is twisted and mind blowing, but it won’t leave you running out of the theatre or having trouble sleeping at night. There is one bloody scene that might be debatable for those with weak stomachs but besides that, the movie is more thrilling than gory.
  4. Mouth from One Tree Hill makes an appearanceWho knew Lee Morris, aka Mouth from One Tree Hill, was still acting? I certainly did not, but he surprisingly makes a small appearance in Gone Girl as a police officer investigating the crime scene. He was a random addition to the movie, but who doesn’t love a good Mouth appearance?
  5. You’ll be at the edge of your seat. The ENTIRE time! While this movie is almost 2.5 hours, it honestly flew by. I was completely and utterly engaged in the movie the entire time I was watching. The whole movie plays with your mind, so you have to pay close attention to figure out what is going on and who the good and bad guys truly are. And right when you think you’ve got the whole story figured out, there’s a twist you’ll never see coming…
  6. It’s something to do before MahoneysTo be honest from Friday to Sunday I’m pretty much a blob until around 9 pm when it’s finally time to start getting ready to go out. Instead of just lounging in your room, scrolling through social media all day, and failing at attempts to start your homework, why not just go out with your friends and do something fun for a couple hours? You’ll be back in plenty of time to go out, and you’ll feel slightly more productive than laying in bed all day.
  7. Barney from How I Met Your Mother makes an appearanceWhile Mouth from One Tree Hill makes only a small appearance, Neil Patrick Harris from How I Met Your Mother plays a pretty significant role. His role is a lot creepier than his role in How I Met Your Mother, making him a very interesting choice. He plays an innocent man who was obsessed with the missing wife, Amy Dunne, and he plays that role so well! Unfortunately, Amy turns to him for help and then betrays him in a very grotesque scene.
