Damien Booker (On Loan from HSC)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hollins chapter.

Class year: 2012
Major: I’ll graduate with a B.A. in Economics & Commerce and a minor in Military Leadership & National Security.

Relationship status: Do people still say ‘single and ready to mingle’? Regardless, I’m single.

Ideal date: My ideal first date revolves more around relaxation and conversation; I think dinner at a nice restaurant followed by an evening at some sort of lounge would be really cool.

What are your plans for after graduation? I will be moving to the DC area because I accepted a full-time job last semester with Booz Allen Hamilton; a consulting firm in Northern VA/DC.

What sort of things are you involved in on campus? My involvement on campus is primarily with TigerFund which is a student-run investment club on campus. I – with four other students – manage a $50,000 portfolio for the school. In addition to the TigerFund, I am a freshmen RA,  Pre-Business Society Treasurer, and a new member of the Minority Student Union (I help with their reorganization stuff).

How involved are you with Greek life at HSC? I received 2 or 3 bids from Theta Chi, but I never pledged. I figured it would interfere with my goal to have job offers at graduation.

What are some of your favorite things about Hampden-Sydney? The biggest thing I like about Hampden-Sydney is the brotherhood; I’ve made some friends that I’m sure will be around for the rest of my life. Otherwise, I like the Honor Code just because it gives people a reason to work hard without cutting corners. The party scene here is pretty good too, but it’s in an interesting place right now.

If people were to give you a superlative, what would it be? I think my superlative would have something to do with being well dressed most times, or most likely to succeed since people always give me a hard time about interning on Wall St (even though I’m pretty humble about it).

What’s something that people would be surprised to know about you? I think people would be surprised to know that I’m a first generation college student.

Amber is a recent graduate from Hollins University. She greatly enjoyed her time as HC Hollins Editor-In-Chief and looks forward to seeing what great things new students bring to the branch.
