5 Best Podcasts to Listen to Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

I’m a huge fan of podcasts. Even when I’m pretty busy and don’t have time to sit down and catch up on TV shows or books, I can still listen to podcasts while doing other things like getting ready in the morning, cooking dinner or walking from one class to another on campus. I like a mixture of entertaining, educational and emotional shows, and I thought I’d share my favourite ones.

1. S-Town.

This intriguing, sort-of-murder-mystery-but-not-really podcast only dropped last week and it’s already created quite the buzz. S-Town is made by the same people who work on This American Life and Serial, and follows the same true story formula but branches out in unexpected, heart-wrenching directions.

2. The Guardian’s Brexit Means…

So, Great Britain is now leaving the EU for sure. If you’d like to know what that means in practice – for the EU, for Britain, even for you personally – Brexit Means… is the podcast for you.

3. Hashtag Authentic.

A friend recently recommended Hashtag Authentic to me and it has been a wonderful if somewhat bewildering journey into the world of Instagram, blogging and online business. The podcast looks into growing your Instagram following and managing small businesses online, and features tips from host Sara Tasker as well as interviews with successful Instagrammers. I never knew hashtagging your photos was such an exact science, but trust me, it is.

4. TEDTalks.

If you’re like me and you’re interested, at least on a superficial level, on pretty much every subject under the sun but have limited time to learn about them, the TEDTalks audio podcast is for you. The episodes are very short, only about 15 minutes at most, and you get to hear some of the most interesting and passionate people in the world talk about their work, research and life experiences.

5. Alice Isn’t Dead.

If you prefer fiction, the creepy and fascinating Alice Isn’t Dead just got started on Part 2, but you should definitely start from the beginning. Made by the team behind Welcome to Night Vale, the immensely popular horror-comedy-small-town-radio-show, Alice Isn’t Dead begins when a woman called Alice goes missing and her truck driver wife, played by the wonderful Jasika Nicole, goes looking for her.
