Some of you may remember the rumors floating around campus a few months back that there would be no 80’s Dance to launch the 2014-2015 academic year… This harsh reality almost came to be as SECS, or the Special Events Committee for Students, was left without leadership heading into the year. Lucky for us, two fab Fords stepped up and took on the responsibility of leading the committee! We had a chance to catch up with Rafi Small ’15 and Avery Weisel’ ’15 this years co-heads to learn a little more about SECS!

Tell us a little more about yourselves!

Rafi

  • Name: Rafi Small
  • Year: 2015
  • Major: Economics, with a concentration in Mathematical Economics
  • Hometown: Chappaqua, NY
  • Other Activities: Men’s Tennis and Sound Machine
  • Fun Fact: I have three younger brothers
Avery
  • Name: Avery Weisel
  • Year: 2015
  • Major: Mathematics, with a minor in Statistics
  • Hometown: Raleigh, NC
  • Other Activities: Women’s Squash
  • Fun Fact: Studied abroad in Turkey

What are your responsibilities as Co-Heads?

Planning school-wide events and dances, including coordinating music, food, and publicity; overseeing the SECS committee of fellow students; and liaising with administrators.

What is your favorite SECS Event?

Our favorite SECS event is Snowball. It’s a nice change from the usual Haverford party scene because everyone dresses elegantly. Having it in the DC is also a nice change from other parties and SECS events, as is the extra effort put into making Snowball so memorable.

… Speaking of Snowball, keep an eye out for updates on the event right here on Her Campus: Haverford!
