In a world where there are so many products and “Youtubers” doing elaborate versions of  the perfect “beat face,” it can get intimidating and overwhelming to jump into the world of makeup. What foundation should I get? Do I really need setting spray? Should I get my makeup from M.A.C ? The list goes on and on. What people don’t know is that makeup is as simple and as complicated as you make it. For my girls who don’t know where to begin , I’m here to give you the top five products you need to get a simple makeup look- without being an expert.

1.     Foundation

Think of your face as a canvas. Before you begin, you want to start off with a excellent foundation. Pun intended. No but seriously, having the right foundation is an important factor that can affect the rest of your look. The easiest way to pick out your foundation is to ask yourself:

1.Do I have normal, dry, oily or combination skill?

2.Do I have a red or yellow undertone?

3.Do I have sensitive skin?

4.What type of coverage am I going for?

5.Do I want to be matte or dewy?

2.     Concealer

Wearing the wrong shade of concealer is a common mistake amongst women. I am officially here to put this to an end and set the record straight. Your concealer should ONLY be two shades lighter than your foundation color.

3. Setting Powder

If you’re like me, you can look like you’re about to fry chicken in the middle of a blizzard! The way that I’ve learned to combat this is an amazing translucent setting powder. The powder will “set” everything you’ve just done to you face and keep it matte. A little extra step would be a setting spray. And no, it doesn’t have to be Fix Plus by M.A.C! There are some great department store brands such as L’Oreal and NYX.

4. MASCARA

When all else fails, mascara saves the day. If you don’t know how to do anything else, putting on a great coat of mascara is a MUST. Not only does it brighten up your eyes but it also bring outs you eye color as well. This is the perfect touch to a well made up face.

These are just some of a few basics that can take your bare face to a refreshed sweet beat! Now get to painting ladies.
