Let’s Not Forget You’re Real Day Ones: Celebrating VDay with Your Girlfriends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Now listen up ladies, we all get it, when February rolls around and the prospects from the first semester didn’t pan out the way we expected but let’s be real. Although it is nice to be handed the red roses on Valentine’s Day let’s not forget the people that stood by our sides while we were crying over that same failed prospect. Boyfriends come and go, but girlfriends are forever.

“Galentine’s Day” is a new term that has been made popular in the last few years and sounds a little cheesy but it goes to show the individuals who are always by your side no matter what. They are the people you call right after every date or recap of the night out, and even the go-to’s when you wanna have a wine night. You can’t forget them and some of the closest people you’ll ever meet. Celebrating Valentine’s Day should be less of a reminder that you may not have a boo this year, but more a celebration of the love and light that is already in your life. Being the biggest cheerleaders on your sidelines and always reminding one another of their worth even when you don’t believe it.

This year, I am happy to end my undergrad experience with some of the most amazing people that I have ever met. With commonalities and memories that have bonded us for life. I am personally so excited to see where they end up in their careers and go way beyond where they expected.

This year, Valentine’s Day will be celebrated with so much joy and it is because I am still with the people that have made me the young woman I am today. Celebrating the small victories for one another and knowing that these small memories created right now is just the beginning.
