The Importance of Protecting Your Spirit In A Relationship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Not many people realize how greatly your spirit can be affected in a relationship that is toxic.

Toxic relationships can drain you spiritually without you knowing.

A drained spirit can cause you to lose motivation and leave you wondering why you stayed in your relationship in the first place.

Relationships can take a lot out of a person and can be the ultimate cause as to why your spirit is suffering.

Sometimes we can fall in love and forget about the spiritual side of us and unintentionally lose sight of what it means to protect your heart. You have to nurture your spirit by surrounding yourself with good energy. Good energy is good for the soul.

There are many scenarios in relationships that can be toxic and lead to your spirit being drained.

If you are giving all of you to your significant other, and they are just taking from you and not giving you anything in return that can be draining in all aspects. There is no equality in that.

If you feel like you are in a constant emotional battle with a person then you need to have a conversation with that person.

If you feel trapped and feel like you are always walking on eggshells this is not good.

If you aren’t able to have open and healthy communication and frequently get into arguments this is a sign that your spirit is in jeopardy.

If you feel like you are always the one to blame for everything that goes wrong in your relationship, this is another sign of a toxic relationship.

Don’t allow your happiness to be depended on your significant other because nothing good comes out of it.

All of the reasons above can cause your spirit to become drained. If you resonate with more than two of these problems you need to reevaluate your relationship. Toxic relationships do more harm than good and sometimes we need to leave them behind.
