Campus Cutie: Mikayla Trogdon

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Have you ever met someone so well rounded, and focused you wonder how they do it? A perfect example is Mikayla Trogdon ! This hard working entrepreneur  is a 2nd year 5 year MBA major from Asheboro, North Carolina and this week’s Campus Cutie.

HC: Why did you choose Hampton? Was it your first choice?

MT: “Hampton was my first choice, I always wanted to go to an HBCU. I attended a very diverse school in Ohio then we moved to North Carolina and I started attending a majority white school. Attending an HBCU would ensure that I was well versed. My mom wanted me to go to North Carolina AT because she did, but I fell in love with Hampton.”

HC: What are you involved in on campus?

MT: “ The Greer Dawson Wilson Student Leadership Training Program, QUEEN Community Service Chair, College Girls.”

HC: How do you keep up with all of your activities?

MT: “Oh my gosh, my planner is my life. I’m not normally a forgetful person but the fast pace of college has made me miss some important deadlines.”

HC: What is your favorite scripture?

MT: 1 Peter 5:10 “Yes, you will suffer for a short time. But after that, God will make everything right. He will make you strong. He will support you and keep you from falling. He is the God who gives all grace. He chose you to share in his glory in Christ. That glory will continue forever.” I apply is every hard situation I’m in.

HC: What is Girls for Higher and where do you see it going in the next ten years?

MT: Girls for Higher started out as my high school senior project it was so successful. I decided to tweak it some, and apply what I was learning in my business classes to develop Girls 4 Higher into an organization. My long term goal is 10 states in 10 years. HC: Often times girls struggle with creating solid friendships, how has that gone for you at Hampton ?

MT: “I have a very strong friend group at school, and these are my most genuine friends because we have similar goals. I have friends at home, but they aren’t like my friends here”

HC: Thoughts on the “Hampton man” ?

MT: “ I think there is a Hampton Man for everyone. They definitely do exist, I believe they get better after freshman year.”

HC: What is your biggest pet peeve?

MT: “I hate to hear people chew, it makes me cringe.”

HC: Favorite natural hair product ?

MT: “Anything that is Cantu or Hawaiian Silky”

HC: Favorite singer ? Favorite song by her?

MT: “ Jasmine Sullivan, A Love With Another Man. It doesn’t apply to my life but I really love it. ”
