We all know that homecoming is a time to let loose and enjoy yourself, but it’s also important to remember to stay safe. Her Campus HU came up with a couple of pointers to remember as you kick off your HOCO week.
1. Don’t go anywhere alone.
Not only can going somewhere alone be awkward, but it can be very dangerous as well. If no one knows where you are, anything can happen. By avoiding flying solo, you won’t be the next Amelia Earhart.
2. If you are going to babysit your drink, keep a good eye on it!
Please do not let your drink stand unaccompanied. And if you do, do not drink from it again. People do some crazy things, so let’s not catch a case!
3. All you need is a full battery, your ID and some cash on you
Besides a few small things that can fit in your pocket, try not to have too much on you. Keeping your phone above 90% might be tough, but it can be vital when going out. To preserve battery turn your battery on low battery mode, or lock it as often as possible. No matter if the emergency is big or small, it’s always good to have cash on you. If you need to call a taxi or even to grab something to eat.
4. You got apps on your phone?
There are a few applications in the App Store that can come in handy while you’re out like Uber, Lyft, Bsafe, and Find My Friends. These apps will provide transportation and allow you to keep up with your friends. They are helpful to ensure no one is left behind.
5. Call HUPD if you need a ride
If you are ever stuck somewhere and need a ride, you can call the Hampton University Police Department and they will come get you. Might be awkward, but at least you’re safe.
6. Follow your Intuition & Enjoy!
If it feels wrong, it might just be. Having fun is always better when your life isn’t at risk, feel me?
