Sorting the Hamline Majors

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamline chapter.

It’s hard to live my daily life without dreaming about Harry Potter, and honestly who doesn’t. I also know we have all judged people by what their major is, and therefore I decided to mash the two together. I give you the sorting of the Hamline majors into their respective Hogwarts houses.

Hufflepuff: Anthropology, Social Justice, Global Studies, Psychology, Religion, Women’s Studies

Hufflepuffs are described as being humble, loyal, and kind. They are hard-workers who are often overlooked because of their lack of self pride. I believe many of the social sciences fit into this one because of their thinking-of-others nature.

Ravenclaw: History, Theatre, Music, Computer Science, Mathematics, Art, Creative Writing

Ravenclaws may seem super smart and maybe a little arrogant at first, but they can actually be some of the most creative and detail-oriented people. Because of this, I’ve included textbook heavy majors such as history, but also the artistic ones such as theatre.

Gryffindor: Business, Criminal Justice, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Communications, Education

Gryffindors are usually brave, daring and popular individuals who can occasionally come across as a little reckless or arrogant at times. I thought that fit well with the science, education and business majors.

Slytherin: Accounting, Marketing, Political Science, Legal Studies, English, Philosophy.

Everyone remembers the Slytherins as being power hungry, selfish and evil, but that doesn’t apply to them all. Slytherins are ambitious and resourceful, whose cunning nature led me to sort majors here like marketing, legal studies and English.

There are still some majors left at Hamline that could be sorted, but for now I decided to stick with these. Just remember, no matter what your house is, or what your friend’s house is, we’re all in this together. Hog—Hamline is our home.
