Top Three Fall Fashion Must-Haves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamilton chapter.

Autumn on the Hill means a series of things: falling leaves, midterms, the slight and almost immediate drop of the temperature and the realization that those mint Capri pants you bought this summer are no longer acceptable to wear. Now you’re forced to pull out your fall wardrobe, only you have no idea what exactly is “fall clothing.” Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered – here are three of the top fashion trends for this fall that will keep you warm and looking stylish for class.

The Downtown Field Jacket by J.Crew

This is the perfect jacket to grab before heading to class on one of those beautiful Clinton mornings when you wake up to 40-degree weather (only to be sweating in Bio by 11:30). It will keep you warm for those first few hours when you’re shivering on Martin’s Way but won’t be too hot when lunchtime rolls around and the temperature has suddenly increased. In the case of those random 75-degree days, this jacket folds up very nicely to fit in your tote or backpack.

Even though we may still be in denial that it’s October, it’s time to bring out the fall coats and this one is so cute that you will finally be able to process that summer is actually over. Available in versatile fall colors, this is a jacket you do not want to miss buying this season.

Printed Scarves

Scarves are an easy way to stay warm with the plunging temperatures, and also can add a fun pop of color to any outfit. Ever had that problem when you want to wear your dark jeans with a black shirt, but then you feel like you don’t stand out at all? Add a printed scarf and you have a colorful outfit using the most basic items in your wardrobe!

In addition to their brightening abilities, scarves are a good idea for this time of year because you can easily take them off when the weather is freezing but the KJ Atrium feels like hot, sunny day in Florida. Here are some examples from Forever 21, including tribal and tie dye prints.

Canvas Backpacks

This stylish bag solves the fashionable tote versus practical backpack dilemma by combining the trendiness of a tote bag with the sensibility of a backpack. Although totes can be cuter than most backpacks, the added strain on one shoulder is never fun for the walk from dark side to the Science Center. Enter the Ecote Backpack from Urban Outfitters, which is available in six classic colors that will match every outfit you could possibly put together.

Style doesn’t mean you have to give up practicality with this bag, as it is designed with multiple different pockets for all the things you carry around all day. No need to search frantically in this backpack for your Hill Card or highlighter, you’ll be able to find them easily in one of the smaller side pockets! Here are some other examples from Urban Outfitters, including various patterns and styles.
