Cherry Blossom Season!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GWU chapter.

This week marked the real start of one of DC’s claims to fame, the cherry blossom festival! Thousands of cherry trees surround the tidal basin, spreading pink petals everywhere. The National Cherry Blossom Festival brings in more than 700,000 people each year to enjoy the mark of springtime and participate in multiple cultural events. The festival also includes a 10 mile run, a parade, and a rugby union tournament.

As campus is located so close to the National Mall, it is easy to walk over and enjoy the beautiful trees. The blossoms are only at their peak for two weeks, so head over as soon! Bring a book, blanket, Frisbee, or football to help you make the most of your cherry tree experience. This is just one of the amazing cultural activities that makes GW and Washington, DC, so amazing.
