Surprising Things You Can do to Help Yourself Sleep at Night

Here are some tips and tricks to getting a better nights sleep.

Don’t sleep right beside your electronic devices

  •  The light from our Phones, iPad, and  Computers have such a forceful role in our sleeping patterns that it can actual be the reason you’re not sleeping at night
  • It will also lower your temptations into grabbing these devices to  check social media or having late night conversations
  • Won’t have to see all the memes your friends are tagging you in

Take a Hot Bath

  • This will allow you to destress and relax all of your muscles in your body getting you ready for bed.

DARKNESS

  • When you get tired at night your body will release melatonin, which causes you to become sleepy. However, this will only occur if your body gets the right signals from the environment around you. Melatonin will only flow in your body while you’re in darkness.
  • Sitting in a dimly lit room before getting ready for bed is ideal.  As early as 9 and 10 o’clock would be ideal

Routines

  • You can help yourself get even more tired if you stick to a routine as your body will start recognizing when bedtime is
  • Try laying out your clothes for the morning at the same time every night and brushing your teeth

Stay Away From Caffeine

  • The purpose of caffeine is to help the individual stay awake: therefore you should stay away from caffeine close to bedtime.

Wear Socks to Bed

  • If you’re someone who gets really cold feet at night time the best solution is to wear socks to bed.
  • Having one body part extremely cold or extremely hot will make you not able to fall asleep.

Limit Evening Food and Drinks

  • Eating and drinking late at night will be counterproductive as it will start your digestive system making it work overtime as the rest of your body just lies there.
  • Alcohol can make you drowsy, but it will cause you not to hit your REM sleep which will not allow you to get a deep sleep
  • Drinking too many liquids will cause you to wake up in the middle of the night because you have to go to the washroom disrupting
